15 Modern Farmhouse Ceiling Fans That Aren't Ugly
When it comes to ceiling fans I’m a self-proclaimed “Ceiling Fan Snob”. My friend Trish said it best :
I mean, why are ceiling fans always so damn ugly? And ceiling fans with lights?? My god, it just gets worse. I’d like to put ceiling fans in the same “home decor atrocities” category as those infamous contractor-special “boob lights” I’ve so often mentioned that I loathe, along with the ugly pillow patterns that come stock with brand new couches.
Here are just a few examples of “Ceiling Fan Atrocities”:
(Side note: I’m pretty positive 2 of these fans were either in or are still in my parents home… hope my mom isn’t reading this…)
Did you just throw up in your mouth a little bit too? Here’s a combination of two “Home-Decor Atrocities” in one:
Now the blades aren’t so bad… but the boob light is all I can see…
Six years ago when Shad and I bought our home, it had a ceiling fan in just about every room, and they were all brass flowery fans circa 1995… even though our house was built in 2001. If I could go back in time, I wish I could tell the me from 2013, that you don’t have to walk in to your local Home Depot or Lowe’s and settle for whatever choices they have. I remember when choosing a few for the guest rooms thinking “ok this is plain, it’s not so bad”. And while they more than beat the ones above- I so wish I would have scoured the internet for better options. You certainly don’t have to settle for vanilla when it comes to your ceiling fans and you MUST replace yours if it looks like one of the fans above.
So this post will make your hunt for “pretty-looking” ceiling fans much easier.
The best part about these options? Most actually cost less than what I ended up spending at my local hardware store and they’re sooo much prettier.
And since ceiling fans with lights are usually the worst offenders, I included mostly ones with lights below:

And the following are sooo dreamy, but soooo out of my price range that I’ll have to leave them for my “one-day” book . If you end up purchasing these, please just don’t even tell me, because I’ll be so jealous. I might even ask to come over so I can gawk in awe of these dreamy fans… haha:
And some added new ones- click on the photo to be brought to the fan itself:
Some things to consider:
Finishes: many of the lights above are available; in different finishes as well as with or without lights. My favorite finishes are oil rubbed bronze or black.
Lights or no lights: many of the fans above are available without lights as well.
Fan Blade Color: in my experience, every fan I’ve ever ordered comes with two color options (like shown below) for fan blades- just flip them over to see the second color available.
4. Downrods: some fans are not available to have an “downrod” option, which is needed in rooms with very high ceilings, so if that’s a must when make sure to search for that option.
